Master Hwang Young Sun
The 6th International Master Hand (Traditional Wooden Furniture / Cert. No. 25-020101-01)
Hwang Young Sun is an esteemed artisan dedicated to preserving the beauty and spirit of traditional Korean wooden furniture (Gogagu). Since entering the craft in 1968, he has spent decades refining his artistry, including serving as the factory director at Mihwa Crafts for 20 years.
To deepen his expertise, he completed the Advanced Program in Traditional Crafts at Seoul National University of Technology in 2010. His lifelong commitment has earned him numerous prestigious accolades, including the Special Selection at the Korea Culture and Arts Festival (2004), the Gold Prize at the Korea Unification Cultural Heritage Exhibition (2007), and the Excellence Award at the Korea Dokdo Arts Festival (2009).
Master Hwang has actively shared his heritage with the public through major exhibitions, including the COEX Craft Show (2009), the COEX Craft Trend Fair (2010–2011), and a featured exhibition at the Jamsil Lotte Art Gallery (2012). He currently continues his dedication to the craft as the director of Yeongjin Antique Furniture.
